Connecting the Dots: Two Months at TCF

In the words of Steve Jobs, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something—your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

When I think about what brought me to TCF with its poignant mission, it was my family connection to rare cancers and professional journey of many dots. Little did I know that when I was asked to attend the first molecular tumor board over 10 years ago at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, that this would cascade into a series of research, clinical, and diagnostic industry experiences that would shape my career in precision oncology.  But just like the stars in a constellation you have to see the pattern and use it as a guide to move forward and serve a greater mission, which for me, is targeted therapy for rare cancers.

As I reflect on my first 60 days with TCF, I wanted to say thank you for this incredible opportunity to lead research and clinical engagement efforts. I am sincerely grateful for the dedicated team and leadership of Jim Palma and Kristen Palma. I look forward to leveraging the “dots” to empower patients and contribute to the scientific mission of TCF. I am enjoying learning about the importance of collectively engaging rare cancer stakeholders to further scientific, clinical, advocacy and policy efforts. This engagement is most evident in preparing the agenda for our annual Think Tank scientific meeting. It is energizing to see this meeting take shape and I am looking forward to being a part of this inspiring day.

There is important work ahead of us. With the support of the TCF team, invested stakeholders, and most of all the rare cancer patients, there is only forward progress to be made. I trust I am where I am meant to be, and I look forward to contributing to many more impactful milestones to come.
