Leading up to the 7th Annual TargetCancer Foundation Gala, we will be sharing stories and perspectives on the gala from the many people who make up the TargetCancer Foundation community.
The post below is from Leslie Condon, Co-Chair of the TargetCancer Foundation Advocacy Council. You can contact Leslie to learn more about how to become a volunteer and join the Advocacy Council. Leslie is pictured above with her sister Laurie.
My sister passed away last December after battling cholangiocarcinoma for nearly four years. Even after Laurie realized she was losing her fight, she continued treatment with the hope that it would lead to breakthroughs for other patients. Like many, I only learned about cholangiocarcinoma when someone I loved was diagnosed. When I stumbled upon TargetCancer Foundation, I was amazed to find an organization raising funds specifically for cholangiocarcinoma and other rare cancer research.
Significant progress has been made but accurate diagnosis and treatment for rare cancers are still far behind when compared to more well-known diseases. The medical studies and trials that TCF helps to fund are crucial for the development of rare cancer therapies and eventually a cure.
Contributing to TargetCancer Foundation has been a way for me to carry on my sister’s memory and generous spirit. This will be my first TCF Gala, which I will attend in Laurie’s honor. I look forward to meeting the many people who continue to support our mission as we move into the future. Thank you for sharing our vision of hope.”
