Supporting Research To Honor Mom’s Memory

Dec 22, 2025 | Community, Patient Stories

Before his own family’s experience with cancer, Joseph Brady had been a longtime supporter of TargetCancer Foundation (TCF) and our work. Below he reflects on the ways TCF helped his family in their time of need and how he is committing to supporting our mission by running the 130th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America as a member of Team TCF 2026.

One of the many community fundraisers Joe has planned for Patriots/Jets fans to benefit TCF since 2017.

On Christmas Eve in 2021, we learned that my mom had a rare cancer, leiomyosarcoma. I immediately turned to TargetCancer Foundation for support. TCF CEO Jim Palma talked with me and helped me navigate those terrifying moments after hearing that one of the most important people in my life had cancer.

During her treatments, I enrolled her in TargetCancer’s TRACK clinical trial. I think this is an amazing research program that continues to give hope to patients and families. I am grateful for all the work TCF has done and continues to do.

I lost my mom on December 9, 2023, and will honor her by running in the 2026 Boston Marathon and raising as much money as I can for TargetCancer Foundation. I believe in their mission and want to make a difference in people’s lives by raising funds that will help drive initiatives they support.
I’m doing this for my mom, our family, my friends, and myself. I want to raise this money so people have more options, better treatments, and more hope.
